ZeroGeoengineering.com | Governments and the United Nations (UN) World Meteorological Organization (WMO) are partners in the global weather enterprise.
The United Nations (UN) World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) coordinates and facilitates international weather and climate experimentation in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. WMO Members and Partners HERE
The science direction of WCRP is overseen by the Joint Scientific Committee, or JSC. “Joint” refers to the fact that the WCRP has three sponsors: the World Meteorological Organization (WMO); The International Science Council (ISC), and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO).
WCRP partners include the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
According to the WCRP website, The Global Precipitation Experiment (GPEX) will include coordinated global field campaigns with an emphasis on different storm types (atmospheric rivers, mesoscale convective systems, monsoons, and tropical cyclones, among others) over different regions and for different seasons, gridded data evaluation and analysis (including identifying the need of enhancing existing global observing network), km-scale modeling, understanding of processes critical to precipitation (e.g., through field experiments and also new approaches such as feature tracking and instrument simulators), and prediction of precipitation events, including extremes as well as changes in precipitation seasonality.

The implementation of the Strategic Plan is currently underway: WCRP Implementation Plan
“We require well-coordinated international observational field and space-based programs, which have access to the most advanced sensors, platforms, and instruments.”
The WCRP Strategic Plan 2019—2028 outlines the following:
“The infrastructure essential to implementing this plan in the coming decade requires commitment and investment across national and international programs, from the science community, funding agencies, and other partners.”
